So what has Zeldin done? Three separate bills funding the police came before him in Congress and he ABSTAINED from voting on all three with no explanation. He couldn't even say they were filled with Democrat pork as other Republicans supported all three of the bills. On January 6th after seeing over 140 cops beaten and brutalized by tens of thousands of rioters just outside his office, Zeldin decided to vote with rioters over the cops they savaged. Why? Because he thought it would help him wins elections. We should be outraged by Zeldin. As for the GOP myth that cashless bail causes crime, the Times Union (TU) conducted the most extensive study to date by examining nearly 100,000 cases in which bail was waived and found that only 2% of suspects were re-arrested on a violent charge. You should read the Oct 12th TU editorial entitled "Don't Blame Bail Reform" instead of bumper stickers. It begins "It's downright insulting how gullible some politicians think New Yorkers are. Case in point: blaming bail reform for crimes that have nothing to do with it." Our lives depend upon fact-based decisions, not self-serving political spin.
