Four FDNY paramedics and EMTs who sued the department and the city after they were punished by the department for speaking out about the conditions they faced in the early weeks of the pandemic each will receive $29,999 in damages, according to terms of a settlement with the city.
The suit was brought by the EMS workers’ union, Local 2507 of District Council 37, after the FDNY suspended John Rugen for 30 days and put Elizabeth Bonilla, Alexander Nunez and Megan Pfeiffer on restricted status, which kept them from working nights, overtime and extra shifts.
