A 1-term mayor?

Posted

To the editor:

The Conflicts of Interest Board did not permit Mayor Eric Adams to hire his brother, Bernard, as head of his security detail for $240,000, but he has just hired Bernard’s wife as a “strategic initiative specialist” for the Department of Education at a salary of $150,000. Does Sharon Adams have some special talent for initiatives in education? That’s a rhetorical question. Adams proves there’s more than one way to skin a nepotistic cat.

Adams has made other questionable hires since taking office. Adams’ buddy, Philip Banks, now serves as a deputy NYPD commissioner despite the fact that he resigned from the NYPD after being named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a federal police corruption case.

Adams’ disloyalty to city retirees is obvious from his personal demand to dump an inferior health-care program, Aetna’s Medicare Advantage Plan, on 250,00 NYC retirees currently benefiting from traditional Medicare. Adams can be sure he will not get any votes from these retirees.

Politico has listed some of Adams’ contradictions with his own statements and claims:

He’s a “blue-collar guy” who vacations in Monaco and parties at a private club.

He paid for a trip on a bitcoin billionaire’s jet through a travel agent.

He’s a devotee of cryptocurrency, but not crypto-mining (which threatens the state’s climate goals).

He was a Brooklyn borough president whose own tax filings raised questions about where he really lived.

He had a homeless accountant whose mistakes forced Adams to file amended tax returns.

I think many of us New Yorkers now think one term as mayor is more than enough for Eric Adams. But hopefully Adams (who at one time called himself a conservative Republican) will not face a clown like Curtis Sliwa in the next mayoral election.

Amen! Amen and Amen! Couldn't have said it better myself. So glad the police commissioner got tired of being used by our Cop Mayor and resigned. Only a fool couldn't see what our Cop Mayor was doing to to her. I wish her well. I wish him 1 term. If there's such a thing as half of one term, I'd wish him that too.
