To the editor:

It’s 10 ballot losses, and counting, for Kevin McCarthy as House speaker.

Despite prostrating himself before some 20 MAGA Republicans and former President Trump, McCarthy is no closer to the seat he covets. By press time, he may have finally won the position, but it will be a hollow victory as the Speaker will be in charge of nothing due to his concessions.

What this process has shown is that McCarthy is an empty suit who is now reaping the seeds he sowed when he went to Mar-a-Largo, hat in hand, to plead mea culpa.

With apologies to Andrew Lloyd Webber I offer the following : “Don’t cry for Kevin, America, the truth is he never loved you, he is a lightweight, a social climber, he broke his oath, let’s keep our distance.”

It's now up to 11. He is so desperate, so spineless, to be the speaker that he will give the farm away. I fear, due to his future concessions, there will be a government shutdown and a government default if the debt ceiling is not raised, which will be catastrophic for the US economy. There will be a recession. If any of that happens, the republicans will all be voted out during the next election cycle.
