To the Editor: On Sept. 18 the Daily News reported that within the last fiscal year, violence in city jails skyrocketed, with serious injuries among inmates up 284 percent.
In addition, there was a 16-percent increase in inmate slashings and a 15-percent jump in assaults on staff and a 32.6-percent rise in serious injuries to staff.
