For the first time, the Federal Government will maintain a national cancer registry meant to track the incidence of the disease among both volunteer and professional firefighters, thanks to legislation passed by Congress last month that was signed into law by President Trump.
Several smaller-scale scientific studies have linked firefighting to a higher incidence of cancer.
