Bill to end 24-hour shifts for home-health aides divides workers, SEIU 1199

A bill making its way through the City Council has split the ranks of Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union, with union officials criticizing the legislation and rank-and-file health-care aides boisterously advocating for it during a City Council hearing and a number of rallies. 

The bill, introduced by Council Member Christopher Marte, would prohibit home-health-care aides from working singular shifts longer than 12 hours and mandate that they work no more than 50 hours a week.
