Responding to Bob Croghan’s letter titled “Kill the horses?” (The Chief, Oct. 7): A recent poll revealed that 71 percent of New York City voters support a ban of horse carriages. This poll was conducted in August, shortly after a carriage horse named Ryder collapsed in midtown. A horrible, tragic image that echoed around the world. His owner misrepresented his age saying he was only 14 when he was well past retirement age – emaciated, with a chronic illness.
