Citing 3-decade low, PBA lobbies for more officers

Noting that the city has fewer cops than at any time since 1990, the head of the NYPD’s principal union says the department’s ever-dwindling number of officers could compromise the city’s recovery from its pandemic-era setbacks.

And although most categories of violent crime, including killings and shootings, have decreased notably since last year, the Police Benevolent Association’s Patrick Hendry also cautions that the dearth of cops could also work to erase the gains in public safety achieved in recent decades.
