Reminding him of his pledge to be “the most pro-union president you’ve ever seen,” a slew of progressive organizations and unions are asking President Biden to publicly back workers' bid to unionize an Amazon warehouse in Alabama.
In a closely watched election, about 6,000 workers in Bessemer, Alabama, are voting on whether to join the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union. Both organizers and the huge online retailer have poured resources into the contest, given that it could lead to other unionizing drives at Amazon worksites. None of the multinational company’s U.S. employees belong to a union.
