COBA sues DOC for breach of labor law

Union claims department did not tell officers of representation rights

The city’s main correction union says jail officers cannot be compelled to speak with a federal monitor about violent incidents inside the lockups unless they are represented by union officials.

The Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association last week filed suit against the city and the Department of Correction claiming that the department violated labor law by failing to inform officers of their right to that representation when they are being questioned about uses of force within the jails.
