The city comptroller’s office is looking to recoup more than $32 million in wages from a Manhattan-based residential developer, alleging it chronically underpaid construction workers in violation of state law.
The comptroller’s bureau of labor law filed suit Thursday with the city’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings accusing BLDG 44 Developers LLC of violating the terms of its 421-a tax exemption by underpaying workers between 2015 and 2019 during construction of a 43-story residential tower on East 44th Street.
