An article in last week’s edition about the Fire Department’s firing of Thomas Buttaro misquoted one of his comments about why he had not gotten more help from his union, the Uniformed Firefighters Association, when it stated, “In a nutshell, [UFA President] Steve Cassidy and I did not see eye to eye,” he said. “As soon as he saw it was a Merit Matters issue, he wanted nothing to do with this.”
In fact, what Mr. Buttaro said was, “In a nutshell, Steve Cassidy and [Merit Matters leader] Paul Mannix did not see eye to eye. As soon as Steve Cassidy knew this was a Merit Matters issue, he wanted nothing to do with this.”
