The union representing City Council staff has adopted resolutions calling on the New York City Employees’ Retirement System to divest from Israel and companies profiting from the war in the Gaza Strip.
The Association of Legislative Employees is the city’s first public-sector union to call on a city pension system to divest from Israel. The move is part of a campaign spawned by rank-and-file workers in District Council 37, the United Federation of Teachers and other municipal unions in recent months.
