Delivery workers prevail in minimum-wage skirmish

Court decision turns back Uber appeal

A state appeals court justice upheld the city’s minimum wage law for app-based restaurant delivery workers, whose pay will now increase to $17.96 per hour.

In June, the Adams administration announced that restaurant app companies must pay delivery workers the new minimum wage starting July 12, which would then increase to $19.96 on April 1, 2025. But days before the new wage was to go into effect, DoorDash, GrubHub and UberEats filed suit in Manhattan Supreme Court in a bid to block the plan, arguing that it would hurt delivery workers because they would see reduced tips and that it would also increase costs for customers.
