The New York Times described the rejection of a union by employees at an Amazon facility in Alabama as a "crushing" defeat for labor.
However much the movement invested, emotionally and otherwise, in the organizing drive, the loss should be seen for what it was: a setback in a fight where the odds were stacked against the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union.
