DNC, are you listening?

To the editor:

This is an open letter to the Democratic Party; stop cowering over the crime issue and instead, take it on! There is ample video of violent crimes committed in Deep Red States. Just last week, Miami Beach had a spate of shootings forcing a citywide emergency declaration and curfew; the police confiscated 75 guns in the aftermath.

On the same day, an elderly couple was shot because they tried to drive past a street racing mob in Lehigh Acres outside Fort Myers. And, let’s not forget the school shooting of a teacher by a 6-year-old boy in Glenn Youngkin’s Virginia.

I suggest the DNC launch a national campaign placing the blame for gun violence right where it belongs — at the feet of GOP legislators. Include video as suggested above and juxtaposition the voices of GOP legislators defending loose gun laws. Additionally, run state rankings for gun violence and homicide rates across the screen showing that GOP-ruled jurisdictions are the worst. End the ads with the same language used by Lee Zeldin — “Vote like your lives depend upon it, because they do.”

An example of GOP madness is Florida state legislators’ plans to overturn the long-gun ban for 18 to 20 year olds put in place after the Parkland massacre. This comes the same week that a 17-year-old shot up his school in Colorado.

The DNC must remind parents of the true threat to their children. It isn’t discussions of race, gender or sex; it is the very real possibility that your children may go to school and not come home.
