Doing harm

Posted

To the editor:

As dangerous as our anti-vax secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is to all Americans, especially young children, he is an interesting case for a psychiatric detective.

Without medical evidence, he speculated that he thought he was born to be an addict. He has admitted to being a heroin addict for 14 years, and was a serial sex addict with dozens of female connections, the details he put in writing in his journal. He is  obsessed with wild conspiracy theories, especially anti-vax theories, even saying, with no medical evidence, that he can look at the faces of youths and see that they are not well.

Replacing scientific experts with unqualified and incompetent people and ending global vaccination programs could result in millions of deaths worldwide.

The key question is why did President Trump select him for his cabinet, especially for the head of Health and Human Services? Clearly Trump wanted to get the votes that RFK Jr. would bring, and the cabinet position was his reward.

But it also is probably related to Trump’s retribution/revenge strategy, where he deliberately picks utterly unqualified people who support him and anger his political opponents. Hopefully, Republican members of Congress will convince Trump to remove RFK Jr. and give him a job where he can’t harm people around the world.

Your letter effectively conveys that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a critic of vaccinations and Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, is incompetent and poses a threat to public health. You speculate that his appointment may have been political and part of Trump’s retribution strategy. Your argument is compelling, but mentioning Mr. Kennedy’s past substance abuse and questionable human flaws doesn’t support your viewpoint.

RFK Jr. is incompetent, dangerous and he lied at his confirmation hearing and should step down or be removed from his position.
