A Department of Sanitation gig remains one of the most coveted in city civil service. More than 50,000 paid $61 to take the sanitation worker exam starting last September. Ultimately, just under 35,000 took the test and 31,290 scored above the 70 percent needed to pass.
The resulting list, from which the department will offer jobs as needed over the next few years, runs 559 pages, each of which has 55 names. Those who scored highest will of course get first dibs.
