A former NYPD detective faces the possibility of 20 years in prison after admitting in federal court that he participated in a violent robbery crew, accepted bribes to provide confidential law-enforcement information and tipped off accomplices about pending arrests.
Saul Arismendy De La Cruz, 33, of Queens, also known by the aliases “Nene” and “Venom,” pleaded guilty Sept. 26 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith C. McCarthy to racketeering conspiracy, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced. The former cop, who left the department in 2022, is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 8 by U.S. District Judge Nelson S. Román. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
