FDNY union blasts 5th firefighter cuts

Trimmed from 20 engine companies

The head of the Uniformed Firefighters Association sounded the alarm Monday regarding the removal this weekend of a fifth firefighter from 20 engine companies citywide. Andy Ansbro, the UFA's president, said the companies affected are in neighborhoods that have the highest number of fires and firefighter runs. 

The FDNY removed the positions to comply with across-the-board budget cuts City Hall officials have attributed to the cost of attending to the needs of the more than 100,000 asylum seekers who have arrived in the city in the last several years.
