Managers at the Housing Authority’s Lead Unit pressured employees to falsely certify that they had supervised hundreds of lead-abatement jobs, which contributed to NYCHA falsely certifying that it was in compliance with Federal lead laws between 2013 and 2018, a joint city and Federal probe revealed.
The investigation determined that since at least 2013, none of NYCHA’s lead abatement work was overseen by a lead supervisor who was certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as required by law, according to the Dec. 10 joint report.
