Zephyr Teachout, having run particularly well in the Hudson Valley in her strong but unsuccessful primary challenge to Governor Cuomo two years ago, Jan. 25 announced that she would seek the Democratic nomination for Congress in that area in the wake of U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson’s decision to step down, possibly to prepare a run on the Republican line against Mr. Cuomo in 2018.
While she figures to have the full support of the Democratic Party (assuming, of course, Mayor de Blasio’s claims that Mr. Cuomo is a vindictive guy aren’t borne out by a half-hearted party effort) and will start with far more name recognition and fund-raising potential this time around, there figure to be a few additional obstacles.
