A few of our stories and columns are now in front of the paywall. We at The Chief remain committed to independent reporting on labor and civil service. It's been our mission since 1897. You can have a hand in ensuring that our reporting remains relevant in the decades to come. Consider supporting The Chief, which you can do for as little as $3.20 a month.
To the editor:
It's seldom that I disagree with Ron Isaac, but there is one point in his otherwise excellent "Credit cards, AI and social media snake oil and snake venom" commentary that I'm at odds with (Sept. 26, The Chief). There are legitimate reasons to use credit cards that do not fall into the categories that he dealt with.
It's been a number of years since I've been in debt. But I still use credit cards, though nowadays I pay the bills in their entirety.
If you're buying a high-priced item, it's preferable to use a card rather than carrying around hundreds of dollars in cash. It's also convenient to not have to worry about whether you took enough cash to cover all your desired purchases. Finally, it allows you to order products over the phone.
