Governor Cuomo’s veto of the court officer pension and disability benefit bills is disappointing. His veto due to the funding not being included in the state’s budget is difficult to comprehend since he’s squandered billions of taxpayer dollars on questionable, failed and corrupt economic-development projects and corporate welfare including $420 million annually to TV and movie producers. Apparently, those expenditures are OK because they were budgeted.
One would think that the Governor would feel obligated to ensure that the men and women who put themselves at risk to provide a safe and efficient court system were treated the same as executive-branch law-enforcement professionals, but obviously that’s not the case.
