A federal judge’s order that the city must hire jail supervisors from outside Department of Correction ranks is shortsighted and unjust, union leaders said.
U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain, noting a federal monitor’s conclusion that DOC supervisors fall short of what’s required to keep order inside city jails, last week directed the city to recruit external candidates for the new, non-competitive title of “facility supervisors.”
