A Manhattan Supreme Court judge has for now stopped the Metropolitan Transportation Authority from unilaterally removing elevator operators from five deep subway stations in Washington Heights.

The New York City Transit Authority, a subsidiary of the MTA, announced that it planned to remove 19 elevator operators who work at the 168th, 181st, and 190th Street stations on the A train, as well as the 181st and 191st Street stations on the 1 train, by July 16.
