Attorneys at the Legal Aid Society last week ratified an agreement reached with management by a 556 to 383 vote, with 90 percent of Legal Aid Society Attorneys United members participating. The vote reflected the legal workforce's divided opinion regarding the contract.
Hundreds of rank-and-file workers got behind a “vote no” campaign launched by a group of members displeased with the agreement recommended by the union’s bargaining committee. But some within the committee itself were at odds, with one member proposing to exclude all members who voted to forward the tentative agreement to the rank and file from participating in a union town hall last week, according to emails shared with The Chief.
