Mayor de Blasio doesn’t share most of President Trump’s worst qualities, but he’s another public official who has navigated without an ethical compass for too long.
His journalistic scourge, Greg Smith of the website The City, last week detailed a Department of Investigation report that the Mayor, even after being told not to, continued tapping for political contributions people who were seeking business from the city. He denied getting such warnings and said he didn’t remember details of any conversations with developers who said he’d pressed them for donations to his since-scrapped Campaign for One New York fund.
