With a third of city public-schools closed due to coronavirus cases and an increase in the COVID positivity rate citywide, Mayor de Blasio Dec. 23 promised to add staffing to the situation room that handles testing and tracing in schools.
As the spread of the virus intensifies, the situation room tasked with letting school communities know that they’ve been exposed to the virus has more on its plate. Schools were also being tested more frequently, with mandatory COVID testing occurring once a week since they reopened Dec. 7.
