Mayor de Blasio’s announcement Dec. 15 that schools would remain open if the state implements a new "pause" order during the coming weeks was slammed as "irresponsible" by the United Federation of Teachers.
With the threat of a second shutdown of non-essential businesses looming as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations increase across the city, he said that he intended to continue in-person learning.
