Medicare warrior

Posted

To the editor:

Thanks are due to Marianne Pizzitola, the NYC retiree warrior, for refuting mistruths from the United Federation of Teachers’ Michael Mulgrew.

Mulgrew told a group of retirees in Florida that NYC Medicare costs have gone up $500 million in eight years. Pizzitola in a recent YouTube expose showed two columns identifying $397 million and $452 million as the Medicare costs for 2015 and 2023, respectively, a cost increase of $55 million.

It appears Mulgrew and the Municipal Labor Committee leadership work for Mayor

Adams rather than for the union workers in pushing for the privatization of Medicare. Pizzitola and her volunteer organization are the true union leaders for all active and retired NYC workers.

It's time to replace the MLC with Marianne Pizzitola. And why not?!

The worst illegal deal in labor history trading union members earned healthcare for low raises.

    THANK GOD FOR MARIANNE PIZZITOLA!!!

Thank you Joe! We need to educate the leaders of the MLC so they are not bullied by the actions of a few. In this case, Michael Mulgrew and Unity Caucus keeps misleading not only their members and retirees, but the other unions in MLC. Our series on the misrepresentations of the MLC leadership/ Michael Mulgrew will continue. We have plenty yet to share! We need strong unions in NYC, who also honor the commitment made to its former members who are now retired unionists! We also need to end attrition bargaining where its is acceptable to giveback previous earnings. Doing so says you have a finite value, and it doesn't increase. You are an asset to the City and your value increases! Celebrate union wins like the recent UAW! A 25% raise in a 4-year contract! 16% in year one! Inflation protection in COLA! NO CONSESSIONS IN HEALTHCARE!!!!! Unions are NOT a 'partner' with the City. They will always try to suppress you. Garrido, Mulgrew and Nespoli all failed in this last round. Not only did they settle for low increases, they agreed to MAJOR healthcare concessions and givebacks. And threw out their retirees in an attempt to force them into Medicare Advantage - a privatized for-profit managed care plan to use the value of OUR benefit, for them. They not only sold off your choice, they tried to pass costs to retirees in the form of premium and co pays, and were throwing away the health plan that had a union in it, to one that did not. That is not what a union should stand for. Our job is to teach them to fight back. The other MLC unions need to pay attention. They are next in this scheme with the current RFP.
