A staffing company must pay more than $2.7 million to more than 300 temporary clerical employees working at several NYC Health + Hospitals facilities for misclassifying the workers, according to a settlement announced by the City Comptroller’s office.
Between April 2015 and June 2018, Winston Support Services, which was contracted to provide clerical staffing services at five of the city’s public hospitals, classified 332 temporary workers as lower-paid positions even though they performed duties that were in line with higher-paid titles, the comptroller’s office found. The misclassification resulted in the workers being owed substantial amounts of money, with one employee due nearly $100,000.
