Not mayoral

Posted

To the editor:

Mayor Eric Adams is quoted as saying "I am a blue-collar mayor who will always stand with the working people of this city-fighting for … better benefits, and a better quality of life” (“By large margin, DC 237 ratifies contract, The Chief, April 7). Why then is the mayor replacing the health care coverage of retired city employees with an inferior plan run by a for-profit company that will limit access to care, require prior approvals, and charge service co-payments? Why is the mayor proceeding with this plan despite the overwhelming opposition of retirees and which will jeopardize their health?

The mayor's plan is not the action of a leader seeking to improve the benefits and quality of life of retirees. He has demonstrated that watching his actions are more important than listening to his dishonest rhetoric.
