Re: Michael J. Gorman's "A simple explanation” (The Chief, letters, Dec. 6): Yes, there is xenophobia and racism and misogyny in this country. It was not the dominant factor in this election.
Harris raised more money quicker than any candidate in history and was for a time ahead in the polls. The funds did not come exclusively from Black immigrant women? And let’s not forget Barack Obama won the presidency in 2008 and 2012. Or that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in 2016?
Harris did not listen to the concerns of the voters. She did not invent herself and was seen as Joe Biden Light. Biden’s approval rating is abysmally low. What color is he? I cared about what Harris would do to make my life better in the next four years. Chase Oliver (Libertarian Party) and Jill Stein (Green Party) offered detailed solutions. Not celebrities shaking their rear ends or telling me there is something wrong with me if I don't vote for their candidate.
Brooklyn Dodger Pee Wee Reese, commenting in 1947 on Jackie Robinson getting hit by pitches, said, "You know, Jack, some of them are throwing at you because you're Black. But some of them are throwing at you because they just plain don't like you."
Some people just didn't like Harris. Has Mr. Gorman even considered what the pundits are saying? Don't confuse the message with the messenger.
