To the editor:
Just a few days after my letter supporting the Queens Assembly member and mayoral candidate Jessica Ramos and highlighting Andrew Cuomo's anti-worker record was published, Ramos endorsed Cuomo (“Bad-faith bargain,” The Chief, June 6). By now, politicians disappointing me does not surprise me.
Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander gives good reasons to support him. His views and policies are basically progressive but he also believes in supporting and recruiting more police. He also continues to strongly oppose efforts to force Medicare Advantage on city retirees.
Ramos now says she's supporting Cuomo because she feels he's best suited to stand up to President Trump. What does she think Lander did when he exposed Trump's seizing of $80 million from the city and forced the Law Department to sue to get it back?
The most recent Emerson poll (May 28th) shows Lander coming in third in the first round with 10.5 percent of the vote and Ramos coming in seventh with 3.5 percent. I'm guessing her numbers will not increase, especially with Cuomo saying "She's endorsing me. I'm not endorsing her."
Before Ramos' flip-flop, I was thinking of making Lander my second pick in rank choice voting. Now he will be my only pick.
