To the editor:

I take the upcoming elections very seriously, but I have to find some humor in the process that could hurt most Americans.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy indicated his support for House Republicans’ plot to hold the debt limit hostage to force through their extreme plans to slash Social Security and Medicare.

We know that seniors are the most dependable voters in the nation. If enough seniors vote for

Republicans and give them majorities in the House and the Senate, and maybe the presidency in 2024, I and all seniors will lose much of our Medicare and Social Security. Many of us won’t be able to pay for expensive medical and pharmacy costs, and it will jeopardize our economic security and our health.

The way I feel is this: You can take away my health benefits and my economic security, but you can’t take away my sense of humor. If seniors really help the GOP do this to themselves, I will die laughing — seriously.
