“It seems every time there’s a group of folks that are primarily black and brown, especially if they are women, they have to fight for fair wages. That ain’t right,” Public Advocate Jumaane Williams said in support of public-hospital nurses seeking pay parity.
Nurses working at New York City Health + Hospitals earn about $14,000 less annually on average than private-sector nurses across the city. The New York State Nurses Association, which represents the public-hospital system’s nearly 9,000 nurses, is seeking to close that longstanding gap.
