‘Right to be fired’ states

To the editor:

What would you call an employee who 1) has a perfect attendance record, 2) has received a perfect annual review of her job performance, 3) was hired to do her job but has taken on the responsibilities of another employee's job due to that employee not be able to keep up, 4) had never griped or moaned about the added responsibilities, 5) never complained after receiving a .25 cent raise after her annual review, 6) Who reports to work 30 mins early just to be on time for her $16.25 an hour job as a senior administrative assistant who previously worked as a administrative assistant for a city agency making close to $100,000 a year for 30 years, and 7) questioned why she wouldn't be paid for working a day off much less being paid overtime, and was told for compensation she can leave a few hours early during the week.

The answer to all of the above is: A dedicated employee who was fired in a "right to work" state just because she asked "Why am I not being paid?”

The reason given on her exit review: "Unsatisfactory performance and insubordination.” The real reason of course is that the company did not want to pay her overtime.

She has since called three lawyers and has received the same three answers, "You have no case.” Seems you can be fired just because an employer does not like you. That is what it is like working in a cleverly worded "right to work state.”

  • I think everyone or at least almost everyone has little information about right to work State. Unions and outside publications haven’t open a strong argument about the weakness and unfair employment in right to work. Most people view right to work as it states giving a person a chance to work period without any penalties. They really don’t understand the wording is actually a gimmick and the media sales this to the public all while the laugh at the Unions and any one against right to work because of weak information to the membership and public. They can do wait better and use better technics to counter this in my belief haven’t even really tried!

    Anyone who wants to understand what it means to be a wage earner in a "right to work" state merely needs to perform an internet search for States Ranked by Median Income. You will quickly find that the RTW States all rank at the BOTTOM! Republicans are like jujitsu artists. They are able to "flip" people with their own weaknesses, just as a jujitsu master uses their small size to flip a stronger opponent. Republicans fight against progressive taxes on the wealthy, Unions, a fair minimum wage, work safety rules, holding corporations accountable for worker abuse and THEN they convince working class Americans that the GOP is on their side. You have to admire their chutzpah.
