J.K. Rowling, creator of the Harry Potter masterpieces and the Fantastic Beats films, has become a controversial and divisive figure. She will be excluded from an HBO retrospective on the Potter movies, but the main actors whose careers were launched by her fictional brainchildren and who denounced her will be featured.
She had infuriated some transgender activists who accused her of gross insensitivity, despite her stellar human-rights record. They are angry that Rowling dissents from the Scottish police's policy of permiting rape suspects to self-identify as women, even if they have male genitals.
