School suspensions continue to decline

But weapons seizures have risen considerably

The number of suspensions issued last school year has dropped from pre-pandemic levels, according to Department of Education data released last week.

School officials handed out 25,117 suspensions during the 2021-2022 year, a 23 percent decline compared to 32,801 during the pre-pandemic 2018-2019 term. Weapons seizures, though, have climbed substantially in that interval.
