The former head of security for then-Mayor Bill de Blasio pleaded guilty Wednesday to repeatedly hindering a Department of Investigation probe into de Blasio’s misuse of his security detail and was terminated from the NYPD as part of his plea.
Howard Redmond, an inspector who was commanding officer of the Executive Protection Unit since the start of de Blasio’s tenure in 2014, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony tampering with physical evidence, two counts of second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor, and two counts of official misconduct, also a misdemeanor, the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr. said.
