Skewed priorities

To the editor:

When Mayor Eric “no transparency” Adams heard about the FBI raid on his primary fundraiser, he immediately canceled his critically important meeting at the White House over the migrant crisis and returned to Brooklyn to find out what the feds were up to.  

Notwithstanding that neither Adams nor his fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, has been charged with any crime, prioritizing checking on the FBI investigation over a meeting at the White House has a very bad look to it.

The FBI is investigating whether Adams’ campaign received illegal campaign contributions from the Turkish government and Turkish nationals disguised as coming from straw donors. Without knowing how this FBI investigation impacts Adams, we know that the mayor is more concerned about his own political future than he is about the migrant crisis and its impact on New York City and our economy. It doesn’t help that Adams has bragged that he has taken more trips — at least a half dozen — to Turkey than any other government official.  

An indicted retired NYPD police inspector who has worked with Adams said that “Adams doesn’t want to do anything if he doesn’t get $25 Gs,” — the minimum the mayor expects at campaign fund-raising events, according to a recent story in The Times. 

Here again, not criminal on its face, but it looks like a politician willing to sell influence.

Interestingly, one of the few people close to Adams, who was above suspicion and never suspected of any improprieties before or after working for Adams, is former NYPD Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell, who was forced to resign by Adams.
