To the editor:

When reading the back page of the Nov. 10 Chief, I see a brief story about Detroit's mail carriers being robbed at gunpoint.

While we seldom have that in New York City, there have been numerous cases of mail being stolen from mailboxes here.

There's also a story about election workers in numerous states quitting after receiving threats.

Donald Trump vows that if he's elected back to the White House, he'll use the Justice Department to get revenge on his enemies by having them indicted. Never mind if there is no legitimate reason for the indictments. Imagine how angry Trump would be if the current Justice Department went after him as strongly as they should.

President Joe Biden took office in January of 2021 and Trump finally faces indictments in 2023. He still has not been indicted for insurrection. If he had been indicted and convicted of that by now, he would not be able to run for president.

Election officials and postal workers feeling unsafe and a former president who tried to make himself a dictator possibly getting another shot at it has all the makings of a banana republic. There's something wrong when there's not stronger law enforcement against such offenders and tens of millions of people still support the would-be dictator.
