The essence of ex-NYPD cop Thomas Webster's defense of behavior during the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol building in which he struck a Capitol Police Officer with a metal pole bearing a Marine Corps flag, then choked the officer while trying to rip off his face shield and gas mask, is, according to his lawyer, "Trump went nuts so I went nuts."
Mr. Webster's brutal assault, while calling his victim a "f------ piece of s---" and screaming "f------ commie motherf------," led to his being charged Feb. 22 with assault of a Federal officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon, obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder, and violent entry and disorderly conduct" on the grounds of the Capitol Building.
