New York is set to implement first-of-its kind congestion pricing for vehicles entering the city’s central business district below 60th street in Manhattan next year, and the city’s yellow cab drivers, who drive 75 percent of their fares through this target area, are calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to make sure they don’t get priced out of existence.
Dozens of drivers chanted “No more tax, on our backs!” during a Wednesday afternoon rally in front of Hochul's Midtown office to pressure the governor to rework the pricing plan. The cabbies and the New York Taxi Workers Alliance are calling for a complete exemption for all yellow cab drivers journeying through the central business district.
