Education unions half-heartedly supported a framework that will use tests to account for 50 percent of Teachers’ evaluations, which was passed last week by the Board of Regents.
The vote, which took place during a June 16 meeting, was ahead of schedule. Under the state budget passed April 1, the state Education Department had until the end of this month to approve a general policy. Still, it wasn’t popular with many of the Regents, who expressed frustration at the complexity and rushed rollout of the process.
