Nearly a dozen unions across the state have sent a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul and leading lawmakers calling on state legislators to pass a pair of bills that would reduce sentences for prisoners and help formerly incarcerated people enter the workforce.
District Council 37, 1199SEIU and Local 79 of the Construction & General Building Laborers were among the 11 unions calling on state lawmakers to pass the Earned Time Act and the Second Look Act, each of which would shorten sentences for certain prisoners. The New York State Nurses Association and Local 338 of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union also signed on.
