With Medicare contract nearly inked, retirees organization vows suit

The city’s effort to switch its municipal retirees from a traditional, government-run Medicare program to a privately administered Medicare Advantage plan, underway for years, has been beset by challenges, legal and otherwise. 

Most of the push-back has come from coalitions of municipal retirees who argue that health coverage provided by for-profit entities is by definition inferior and would therefore renege on assurances made decades ago.
