As this newspaper went to press July 20, a Federal jury completed its second day of deliberations with no verdict on the fate of State Sen. John Sampson after a three-week trial on charges of trying to cover up the alleged embezzlement of $440,000 he was holding in escrow from home foreclosures.
The embezzlement charges, which involved Mr. Sampson’s law practice, were dismissed last October after U.S. District Judge Dora L. Irizarry concluded that the statute of limitations passed before they were filed.
